Alejandro Marichal: “With this survey we will understand how the social, family and school environments influence our young people and we will be able to guide specific policies that respond to the reality of the municipality”

Dimas Sarmiento: “Obtaining an accurate picture will allow us to determine the factors that affect youth well-being and detect needs related to suicide prevention.”

The Department of Social Services of San Bartolomé de Tirajana is promoting a study in collaboration with the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) to analyze how family, school, social, and community contexts influence the mental health and well-being of adolescents in the municipality. The initiative, entitled 'Adolescent Well-being Trajectories: A Comprehensive Approach from Their Contexts,' is being carried out through a questionnaire open to the participation of adult residents of the municipality.

An anonymous, confidential, and voluntary online form has been made available for data collection, taking approximately ten minutes to complete. This procedure allows any adult resident of San Bartolomé de Tirajana to share their perception of the quality of community environments in their neighborhood, following criteria that guarantee data protection and the methodological rigor of the study.

The survey is available from any device via the following link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScm7zfN-e4zftlXPi877YO30KxZeoz_YBxJG84ygzxc7PnZVw/viewform

The information collected will be used exclusively for academic and research purposes, in compliance with Organic Law 3/2018 on the Protection of Personal Data and Guarantee of Digital Rights. The Councilor for Social Services, Dimas Sarmiento, explains that the objective is “to obtain an accurate picture of the factors that influence youth well-being and, especially, to identify needs related to suicide prevention, early intervention, and the improvement of community dynamics surrounding adolescents in the municipality.” The survey asks each person to respond according to what they do, think, or feel, without making judgments or prescriptions, in order to ensure the validity of the results.

The First Deputy Mayor, Alejandro Marichal, emphasized that “citizen participation is essential to understanding how the social, family, and school environments affect our young people and, above all, to guiding public policies that respond to the reality of the municipality.” He added that “with this comprehensive overview, we will be able to develop actions better suited to the needs of our families and teenagers.” Both stressed the importance of high citizen participation in order to obtain a broad and representative diagnosis.

The Department of Social Services encourages all adult citizens of the municipality to complete the questionnaire and share it with family members, neighbors, and associations in the various population centers, as their collaboration will contribute to improving the quality of life of families and young people in San Bartolomé de Tirajana.
