The mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez, announced this Thursday the "important" program of Christmas events organized in a cross-cutting manner by different council departments of this city council, which will take place until January 6 in each and every one of the neighborhoods of the municipality and especially in the South Urban Park, where the activities to promote the second edition of Christmas of the World will be centralized.
The Councilor for Street Lighting and Parks and Gardens, Araceli Armas, explained that the Christmas decorations, "which reach every corner of the municipality," include approximately 1.209 hanging lights in the streets, around 5.000 poinsettias planted in flowerbeds, roundabouts, and medians, and 22 large-scale greeting displays strategically placed in highly visible areas. These decorations are complemented by the decorative displays installed by the 13 companies participating in the 2nd Roundabout Decoration Competition. "This year, we have covered 28 kilometers of streets in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana with Christmas lights," stated the mayor.
The Christmas festivities will kick off with the switching on of the town's Christmas lights this Friday at 6:45 p.m. in the open-air shopping area of Avenida de Gáldar, "a strategic, central, and key location for boosting commerce," stated Araceli Armas. The day's fun and festive activities, including children's workshops, bouncy castles, a parade, a Christmas house, a photo booth, and a concert by Los Salvapantallas and Banda Tabaiba, will begin at 5:00 p.m. and end at 10:30 p.m. This event is organized by the Lighting and Commerce departments of the town council, in collaboration with Acomisaba, and is co-financed by the Gran Canaria Island Council through its Vice Presidency, Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, Architecture, and Housing.
The Councillor for Street Lighting also announced the lighting of the World Christmas display in the South Urban Park this Sunday, December 7th, at 19:00 PM. The day will begin at 2:3 PM with children's activities and musical performances, including a show by the Rainbow Gospel Choir and DJ Capi. This year, the park will feature over 100 illuminated structures in two and three dimensions. Araceli Armas announced that "there will be new additions, such as a unique and very special representation of the Nativity of Jesus, among others."
Araceli Armas reminded everyone that visitors to Parque del Sur have several parking areas available next to the Health Center, the Tax Office esplanade, and near the Courts for easy access to the park, where the daily lighting of the decorations will take place at 18:30 p.m. She also clarified that the park will remain open until January 7th with extended hours until 23:00 p.m. every day, except for December 24th and 31st, when it will close at 20:00 p.m.
Workshops, Christmas carols, and parties
Regarding the Christmas activities planned by the Department of Festivals and Events, Ylenia Vega explained that from December 19th to January 4th, creative children's workshops will be held in 18 neighborhoods throughout the municipality, focusing on writing letters to Santa Claus and the Three Wise Men. In addition, two candlelit Christmas carol concerts will be organized, "designed to inspire, unite, and celebrate the Christmas spirit as a family." The first will take place on Tuesday, December 23rd at the Maspalomas Lighthouse, and the second on Friday, December 26th in San Fernando Square.
Ylenia Vega announced that three large parties have been organized to ring in 2025 in San Bartolomé de Tirajana: one in Castillo del Romeral, another in Tunte, and the third in San Fernando de Maspalomas. These celebrations will allow residents and visitors to enjoy an unforgettable night without having to travel far. “There will be three venues with the same purpose: to celebrate the arrival of the New Year together, close to home and with all the comforts,” she said. In addition, the Tourism Department is organizing the Children's New Year's Eve Party, now in its third year. It will be held on the morning of December 31st on the sand of Playa del Inglés beach.
Vega announced that this year the Three Kings Parade will extend its route. It will once again depart from the Yumbo Shopping Center, pass through the Ronda Shopping Center, go up to the Inem roundabout, turn towards the San Fernando Indoor Pavilion, and after the roundabout by the swimming pool, head down Tejeda Street towards San Fernando Park.

Christmas Around the World
The Deputy Mayor, Elena Álamo Vega, presented the calendar of activities for 'Christmas Around the World 2025'. “It's a wonderful program that combines culture and art, created to meet the needs of residents who enjoy the South Urban Park as a special and unique space with family and friends,” she said. “Christmas Around the World will once again be a cultural and family-friendly event where different Christmas traditions from around the globe will be discovered, with educational and fun activities that promote family participation and bring international communities closer to the customs of their countries of origin and to our own,” she noted.
The World Christmas program will run from December 20th to January 4th. Among its main new features, Álamo Vega highlighted the creative zone 'Legolandia', where children and their families can unleash their imagination building with Lego pieces of different sizes; also the 'Star Corner', a sensory tent designed for neurodivergent children and those who need a calmer environment to enjoy the activities; the 'Original Nativity Scene', "an exclusive nativity scene created for this edition and designed to surprise all ages"; and 'Christmas Cinema', a space prepared for screening family-friendly Christmas films.
Returning to this year's World Christmas Festival are other activities that enjoyed enormous success in the first edition last year and are now firmly established, such as 'World Christmas Expo', dedicated to the Christmas themes of Lapland, China, Africa, the Netherlands, Cuba, and India; the 'Christmas House', "where Mrs. Claus and her elf share adventures around the world and their Christmas spirit, immersing us in unique traditions and customs"; the Ice Rink, "which will allow you to enjoy the experience of skating in a festive environment and with a unique atmosphere"; the 'Christmas Train', in which visitors can stroll through the park discovering all the decorations; and the 'Christmas Theater', with daily small-format shows for families featuring magicians, clowns, jugglers, and acrobats.
Elena Álamo also highlighted the celebration of two well-established Christmas galas in San Bartolomé de Tirajana. The first is the annual Lyric Gala featuring soprano Judit Pesoa, which will be held on December 28 at Expomeloneras due to capacity limitations. The second is the traditional New Year's Concert at the Mirador de Las Dunas, featuring Olga Cerpa and Mestisay, with Jorge Pardo on saxophone and Alejandro Monroy on piano, on January 1 at 18:30 p.m.
Also within the South Urban Park itself will be the Grand Christmas Theater, which transforms the park's auditorium into a space dedicated to large-scale cultural programming with shows for all audiences. Among these shows, Elena Álamo highlighted 'Santa Claus Arrives in Maspalomas,' which will be performed by the municipality's dance schools; the 'White Christmas' concert with the Groove Band, directed by Alberto Brazuelo, and featuring the voices of Cristina Ramos, Besay, Noelia Ramos, Fasur, the Bellagio Trio, and the Maspalomas Choir, presented by Yanely Hernández; the family-friendly 'Fantasy' concert by the Sol y Arena Band; the show 'The Grinch'; the children's group Pica Pica; the 'Maspalomas Talent Show II' competition; 'Humor at Christmas,' starring Quique Pérez, Omayra Cazorla, Lili Quintana, Kimy Touw, Free Vogue, and Las Glitter Girls; and the Christmas Circus. The concert will feature St. Pedro, Danza Invisible, Vulcan Sea, Maldita EGB and Los 600, among others; and the second edition of Urban Canarias, with workshops in the El Tablero Pavilion and a championship on the 28th, with more than 500 participants and a professional jury of reference in Spanish urban dance.
For the World Christmas celebrations, there will also be daily craft workshops, face painting, inflatables, sing-alongs, Christmas parades and a photocall with children's characters, and in the external area of the Park there will again be a car fair and a food truck area with a varied gastronomic offer.
Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez concluded the presentation by inviting the public to participate in the Christmas program and reminding them that a traditional Christmas market will be held in the Avenida de Tejeda area during the Three Kings Parade on January 5th.
