Alejandro Marichal: “This project directly benefits 250 residents who are finally seeing their homes modernized and made more accessible and safe.”
Lucía Jiménez: “Our neighbors are already noticing clear improvements: the elevator structure is ready, the facades have been renovated, and the buildings have been reinforced. Now we are entering the final phase with the exterior landscaping and finishing touches.”
The rehabilitation works at the Santa Águeda housing development in El Pajar are progressing well and have reached 63% completion, having overcome the most complex phases of the project. The development, built in the 70s and comprising 66 homes housing approximately 250 residents, is undergoing a comprehensive renovation with a total cost of €1.346.828. The Housing Department of San Bartolomé de Tirajana conducted a site visit to assess the progress of the works included in the Urban Regeneration and Renewal Area (ARRU).
During the visit, First Deputy Mayor Alejandro Marichal and Councilor for Housing Lucía Jiménez were briefed by the municipal architect and the construction company's technical team on the work completed to date. This includes the construction of the structures that will house the new elevators, the repair and reinforcement of pillars and floor slabs, the waterproofing of roofs, the renovation of plumbing systems, and the improvement of facades with stone-effect paint. These actions have addressed the most deteriorated elements of the residential complex and prepared it for the final phase of the project, which focuses on the complete installation of the elevators, interior finishing touches, and exterior landscaping.
First Deputy Mayor Alejandro Marichal highlighted the project's social significance and the tangible improvements it brings to the residential area, noting that the most complex phase has been completed and the results are now visible to residents. "This project directly benefits 66 families who are finally seeing their homes modernized, made more accessible, and safer," Marichal concluded.
For her part, the Councillor for Housing, Lucía Jiménez, emphasized the magnitude of the improvements already visible and their direct impact on the quality of life of the residents: “Our neighbors are already noticing clear improvements: the elevator structure is ready, the facades have been renovated, and the buildings have been reinforced. Now we are entering the final phase with the exterior landscaping and finishing touches.”
The rehabilitation of El Pajar is part of a broader municipal plan to modernize the existing public housing stock in the municipality, with a total investment of €13,8 million. This program includes other projects currently underway, such as the rehabilitation of the IFA Group, which is more than 37% complete; the comprehensive renovation of the La Paz Urbanization, which will modernize 132 homes and eight commercial spaces with improvements in accessibility, energy efficiency, and structural safety; and the rehabilitation of the 106 homes in El Castillo del Romeral, where work is progressing very well and is expected to be completed in August 2026.
Furthermore, the City Council is promoting new actions planned for the residential complexes of Las Llaves and Montaña Clara, which will be the next to be incorporated into the municipal urban regeneration plan, thus completing a strategy that seeks to dignify residential environments, improve habitability and strengthen social cohesion in all neighborhoods of the municipality.
With this set of interventions, the Council continues to take giant steps towards the ambitious goal set at the beginning of the legislature to develop a useful and transformative housing policy, based on facts, investment and real works that improve the lives of the residents of the municipality.
