The City Council is promoting a campaign to encourage Christmas shopping within the municipality itself.

Small and medium-sized businesses in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana need support, especially as the holiday season approaches for Christmas. With this in mind, the Department of Commerce, headed by Araceli Armas Cruz, has launched an awareness campaign to encourage residents to shop locally for Christmas within the municipality, in small local businesses, and in open-air shopping areas.

Under the slogan 'Shop local, share more', the campaign is funded by the General Directorate of Commerce and Consumer Affairs of the Government of the Canary Islands and its objective is to promote responsible consumption that directly supports the commercial fabric of the municipality and its identity, especially small family businesses, self-employed professionals and those in commercial areas, "because they are the ones that generate employment, contribute to urban life and build community," says Araceli Armas.

“Small businesses are an important economic engine for the municipality, because behind them, and also at the forefront of them, are families, neighbors, and residents who live alongside the community every day. Shopping at them, especially during this Christmas season when consumption tends to shift towards large stores and online platforms, is a decision that contributes to their strength and sustainability,” says Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez.

This campaign to support small businesses during the Christmas season emphasizes that "shopping in San Bartolomé de Tirajana helps each small business preserve memories, names, and stories," and also that "our own dreams can help fulfill the dreams of others."
