The luxury of calm: Safety consolidates high tourist satisfaction in the South of Gran Canaria

While the tourism debate often focuses on price and sunshine, an analysis of destination perception in southern Gran Canaria reveals a deeper truth: safety is a non-negotiable pillar of its success, decisively contributing to a Global Tourist Perception Index of 82,65. This index, which marks a year-on-year change of 1,3%, demonstrates that stability and tranquility have become premium assets, especially for key European markets.

According to data from the Gran Canaria Tourist Board, the Safety Index in the area is remarkably high, ranking among the best indicators for the destination. Unlike other indices, such as those for Hotels or Products, which strive for improvement year after year, the high safety rating demonstrates that tourists perceive the destination as a haven. Comments and reviews from tourists in the United Kingdom (20,97% of total reviews), Italy (10,59%), and Germany (9,56%) are the most influential in reinforcing this perception. For these travelers, the guarantee of a safe environment is as fundamental as the weather.

Sentiment analysis broken down by product reinforces the value of safety in the overall experience. Tourism products in southern Gran Canaria generally register an extremely low percentage of negative mentions, indicating a smooth customer experience free of serious incidents.

The all-time low in negative territory

Products as sensitive as Cultural (4% negative), Nature (4% negative), and Sun and Beach (3% negative) remain at minimal levels of criticism. The low friction in the tourist experience is a direct indicator of the effectiveness of security management, including police, health, and infrastructure.

Even in the nightlife sector, an area prone to problems, negative sentiment remains at a controlled 5%, with 66% of mentions being neutral, indicating that experiences are generally peaceful. Family tourism also registers a low 5% of complaints.

While southern Gran Canaria is diversifying its offerings towards cultural (23,27% interest) and active tourism, the foundation of its profitability lies in its ability to provide a high-quality and, crucially, safe holiday experience. In an uncertain global market, peace of mind is an asset that tourists value above many other amenities.
