Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez offers the traditional courtesy welcome to the young Lucías, Swedish and Canarian, Juliana Correa Moreira and Lucía González Ramírez, respectively, before their coronation this Thursday at the Ecumenical Temple

The mayor of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez, received the Swedish and Canarian women this Wednesday, following a protocolary act of courtesy with more than 60 years of history, which arose as an expression and recognition of the cordial and neighborly bond that the Swedish community has established with this municipality.

During the meeting with the young women Lucía González Ramírez, the Canary Islands Lucía, and Juliana Correa Moreira, the Swedish Lucía, of Portuguese descent, reflecting the internationalization and mixture that permeates the population of all Europe, the mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez spoke with both of them about this celebration that is organized annually every December 12 by the Queen of Light Foundation, an organization founded by the remembered historian and Canarian scholar Vicente Sánchez Araña and now chaired by his son Juan Vicente Sánchez Araña.

The Swedish delegation that met with Marco Aurelio Pérez also included the Honorary Consul of Sweden, Dunia González Ramírez, who highlighted the deep-rooted tradition among Swedish residents in this municipality of celebrating the Coronation of the Swedish and Canarian Lucias at the Ecumenical Temple of El Salvador in Playa del Inglés, since its first edition on December 12, 1963. The Coronation of the Lucias for 2025 will take place this Thursday at the Ecumenical Temple at 20:00 p.m., in a ceremony where the Maspalomas Encantada Choir will perform a repertoire specially prepared for the occasion.

On December 14, 2023, Marco Aurelio Pérez and Inger Boström, Deputy Mayor and Councillor for Culture and Leisure of the Swedish city of Luleå, pledged to ensure that the Coronation ceremony would continue to be held at the Ecumenical Temple in the years to come. And this commitment is being honored.
