The municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, a tourist hub in southern Gran Canaria, has demonstrated a robust economic recovery following the impact of the pandemic. The most recent data (2023) confirms that the average gross income reached €28.305, representing a substantial increase of 8.8% compared to the €26.010 recorded in 2022.

This figure not only absorbs the shock of 2020 (when income fell to €21.826), but also surpasses the pre-pandemic peak of 2019 (€25.646), confirming that the economic engine, driven by the tourism sector, has recovered its full capacity. Consequently, disposable income also shows a significant improvement, reaching €20.596 in 2023, compared to €19.588 the previous year.

The recovery in income has had a direct impact on the municipality's position in purchasing power rankings. San Bartolomé de Tirajana has climbed remarkably, reaching 872nd place nationally in 2023, an improvement of 177 positions compared to 1.049th in 2022. At the regional level, the progress is equally significant, moving from 22nd to 14th place in the same period. This upward trend is vital to counteract the freefall experienced in 2020, when the municipality ranked 1.395th nationally and 35th regionally.

Despite economic fluctuations and the health crisis, the municipality's registered population has remained relatively stable over the last decade, hovering between 53.000 and 54.000 people. In 2023, the population was 54.116, a figure very similar to that of previous years (53.912 in 2022 and 52.936 in 2021). This suggests that the improvement in per capita income is due to purely economic factors, such as increased wages and business revenues in the service sector, and not to an anomalous demographic change.
