He was Moroccan, with no prior criminal record, and among his belongings was a 500 Norwegian kroner note. The Las Palmas Public Prosecutor's Office is requesting the maximum prison sentence for a man who threw high-purity cocaine on the ground during a police check on Madrid Street in the tourist town of Mogán. The Las Palmas Provincial Court will hold the trial against MEAI in the coming months, accused of a crime against public health for drug trafficking. The Public Prosecutor's Office has requested a four-year prison sentence and subsequent deportation from the country for a period of nine years, once he has served two-thirds of his sentence.

The events date back to the morning of January 12, 2025, when MEAI was stopped by officers of the Mogán Local Police at a routine vehicle checkpoint on the central Madrid Street in Arguineguín. According to the indictment, the defendant, upon noticing the police presence, made an evasive maneuver with the Volkswagen Polo he was driving. The officers signaled him to stop, and at that precise moment, the man threw a white bag under the vehicle.

The bag recovered by the officers contained a white, rocky substance which, after being weighed and analyzed, turned out to be 99,77 grams of cocaine. The toxicology report revealed a high purity of 84,85%. The street value of this substance is €5.989,19. In addition to the drugs, the accused was found in possession of several bundles of banknotes totaling a significant amount of cash in both Spanish and foreign currency, including: two €100 notes, eight €50 notes, thirty-eight €20 notes, and one 500 Norwegian kroner note.

The prosecution maintains that both the drugs and the seized money were intended for trafficking, possessed by the accused with the aim of obtaining an "illicit profit" and "thus endangering the individual and collective health of others." The Public Prosecutor's Office has charged MEAI with a crime against public health, as defined in the Penal Code for substances that cause serious harm to health. In addition to a four-year prison sentence and a fine of €17.967, the prosecutor has requested, pursuant to Article 89 of the Penal Code, the expulsion of the accused (of Moroccan origin and with no prior criminal record) from the country once he has served two-thirds of his sentence, with a nine-year ban on re-entering Spain.
