A woman lost her life early Monday morning after suffering a drowning episode at Playa del Inglés, in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, despite the rapid intervention of the emergency services.
The incident occurred at 8:47 a.m. on December 15, 2025, when the Canary Islands Government's Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 112 received an alert reporting a person in serious difficulty in the water at the aforementioned beach. The corresponding emergency response was immediately activated.
Firefighters from the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Fire and Rescue Service rescued the woman and brought her to shore, where she was found in cardiac arrest. Emergency medical personnel from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) began basic and advanced cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), but were unable to revive her, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was 65 years old.
The operation involved a fully equipped ambulance and a basic life support ambulance from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), as well as firefighters, local police, and national police. The national police took charge of the investigation, and the case is now pending judicial review, while the local police assisted with security in the area.
