Gran Canaria is moving towards 2026 with new air routes

Gran Canaria Tourism Tuesday, December 16 of 2025

The island adds new connections and program reinforcements that consolidate its direct access to Europe and the national market, with a special focus on the 2025/2026 winter season and the additions planned for 2026 and 2027.

Gran Canaria Tourism closes 2025 with a particularly positive balance in terms of air connectivity, one of the strategic pillars for the destination's competitiveness. Throughout the year, the ongoing work of the entity's technical teams, in coordination with airlines, airports, institutions, and the professional sector, has allowed them to consolidate existing routes, activate new connections, and lay the groundwork for future additions in the coming months and seasons.

“Gran Canaria has never been better connected than it is today, making it easier and more convenient to fly to our island from a wide variety of cities and capitals. This allows us to maintain significant growth in many markets and offers greater stability to the destination, with room for growth in the summer while maintaining the positive figures from the winter,” said Gran Canaria's Tourism Councillor, Carlos Álamo.

In this context, the destination now has its updated interactive flight map with the 2025/2026 winter schedule, a key tool for the tourism industry that reflects the breadth and diversity of Gran Canaria's air network. This map is available in the Professional Area of the official Gran Canaria Tourism website. This growth is further supported by rising statistics from Gran Canaria Airport, which, according to the latest available data for the period January–October 2025, recorded 12,96 million passengers (round trips), 5% more than in the same period of 2024, with 117.085 flights operated (+2,6%), connections to 160 airports, a presence in 30 countries, and activity from 60 airlines. These figures represent an all-time high and consolidate its role as one of the main connectivity hubs in the Atlantic.

In this regard, based on its current Strategic Plan, Turismo de Gran Canaria is working to consolidate quality air connectivity, characterized by the diversity of markets, the consistency of operations and its contribution to a more accessible, competitive and connected destination throughout the year.

Upcoming route openings

Connectivity planning for the coming months confirms that the opening schedule remains active and positive. In the short term, the announcement of new routes to France is expected, with Lille being the next addition by Volotea.

Meanwhile, the schedule for the coming months and seasons already includes significant additions for 2026 and 2027. For the summer season of 2026, Norwegian plans to strengthen connectivity with the Scandinavian market by opening a route linking Gran Canaria with Billund Airport (Denmark), as well as reopening the route to Bergen and adding Stavanger, thereby expanding the destination's presence in Norway. During the same period, Jet2 will add London Gatwick as a new direct connection.

Looking ahead to winter 2026/2027, Volotea has confirmed the reopening of the Toulouse–Gran Canaria route, restoring a strategic connection with the French market.

New connectivity features already in operation or soon to be activated

The final stretch of 2025 concentrates several particularly relevant additions due to their immediate impact on the destination's connectivity map.

Among them is the new direct route by Wizz Air between Wroclaw and Gran Canaria, which began operations on December 5, significantly strengthening access from the Polish market and the positioning of the destination in Central Europe.

Binter has also launched its direct connection to Seville this month, with a regular schedule that strengthens national connectivity and expands access options to the destination during the winter season.

Meanwhile, in France, the service to Bordeaux, operated by Transavia France, is scheduled to begin this coming Saturday, December 20, thus restoring a significant direct connection to the French market. This is in addition to the new routes launched by easyJet since the end of October, including cities such as Paris, Nantes, Lyon, and Milan, significantly increasing capacity and diversifying markets for the 2025/2026 winter season.

In parallel, for winter 2025/2026, new airBaltic operations will also be incorporated, expanding connectivity with Slovenia and Molde (Norway), reinforcing the destination's presence in markets in northern and central Europe.

Sustained growth and consolidation as the balance sheet for 2025

Throughout this year, Gran Canaria Tourism has progressively announced various connectivity milestones that, taken together, reflect a period of consolidation and sustained growth. The year has been marked by the addition of new international and domestic routes, as well as increased frequencies and capacity on existing routes.

Among these milestones is the confirmation given at the beginning of the year regarding the connection with Bucharest (Romania) for last June, a route operated by Wizz Air, as well as various announcements related to strengthening connectivity with France, Italy, Eastern Europe, the Nordic countries and the United Kingdom.

In the domestic market, Binter's activity has had a particularly significant impact, with the addition of new peninsular routes, expanding the connectivity of our destination with the national territory.

The new routes and enhanced schedules reflect the work plan established by Gran Canaria Tourism, based on data analysis, strategic planning, and ongoing collaboration with airlines and the tourism industry. Improved air connectivity not only facilitates visitor arrivals and stabilizes key source markets, but also opens new opportunities in emerging markets, diversifies demand profiles, and advances key objectives for the organization, such as reducing seasonality and increasing the destination's value in the global market.
