The extensive program of leisure activities for children, young people and families offered by the Department of Culture, including an ice rink, Christmas House, inflatables, theater, concerts, Christmas train, cinema, workshops and humorous and circus shows among others, will take place daily in the South Urban Park between 17:00 pm and 22:00 pm
Mayor Marco Aurelio Pérez Sánchez inaugurated this Saturday in the South Urban Park the second edition of the World Christmas leisure and cultural program, a 13-day event that the Department of Culture dedicates during this festive period and school break to the Christmas activities of children, youth and families of San Bartolomé de Tirajana and its visitors.
The opening day of World Christmas was a real treat for children. Numerous families attended the event, which kicked off in style at five in the afternoon with a lively parade featuring Gran Canaria's bikers, and the launch of the first three creative craft and face painting workshops with Christmas themes, along with a host of other activities and leisure options that can be enjoyed daily until January 4th.
The excitement in Parque del Sur reached fever pitch an hour later with the interactive show by the popular Spanish musical and theatrical trio Pica-Pica. The creative display by the former members of Cantajuegos—actor Ignacio Repetto (Nacho Bombín), juggler and percussionist Emiliano Müller (Emi Bombón), and dancer and teacher Belén Guijarro (Belén Pelo de Oro)—captivated and had the children and families dancing with their original and traditional songs, fun games, and great humor.
In addition, the inaugural event, conceived by the council department headed by Deputy Mayor Elena Álamo Vega and coordinated by Councilor Esther Delgado Sánchez, also provided young people and adults with the enjoyment of a fantastic musical concert featuring performances of almost an hour and a half each by the groups Maldita EGB and later Los 600.
Playful program
The World Christmas entertainment program, which offers inflatables, a photo booth, parades, galas, concerts, and daily circus, musical, comedy, film, and theatrical performances, also includes the 'World Christmas Expo' tent decorated with Christmas themes from Lapland, China, Africa, the Netherlands, Cuba, and India; the Christmas House, where Mrs. Claus and her elf offer an adventurous and magical journey through the Christmas spirit of the world, immersing visitors in unique traditions and customs; a 200-square-meter ice rink to enjoy the experience of skating in a festive environment; a tourist train to ride around and see all the Christmas decorations in the Park; and a Christmas Theater with small-format shows offered by magicians, clowns, jugglers, and acrobats to delight family audiences. In addition, this year's offerings include, among other new features, the Legolandia tent, a creative area with 6 rooms where children of different ages can make constructions with Legos of different sizes and from least to most complex, and the Star Corner, a sensory tent designed especially for neurodivergent children.
