Maspalomas is preparing its 2026 work year with holidays that will mark the life of the destination

With the new Canary Islands work calendar for 2026 now official, residents, tourism companies and hotel operators in Maspalomas are already adjusting their schedules and strategies to make the most of the holidays and possible long weekends that will impact activity in the main tourist destination in the south of Gran Canaria.

The Canary Islands Government, following the publication of the corresponding order in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands, has established the national, regional, and island holidays that will be in effect next year. In Maspalomas, as throughout Gran Canaria, certain dates have been set that will have a significant impact on both local life and the flow of European and national visitors.

Key holidays in Maspalomas

In addition to July 25th, other key dates on the Maspalomas calendar for 2026 include:

Calendars

January 1 (Thursday) – New Year, start of the year and first opportunity for family and tourist activities.

January 6 (Tuesday) – Epiphany of the Lord, with cultural events and Christmas traditions that extend the peak season.

April 2nd and 3rd (Thursday and Friday) – Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, marking Holy Week and an important period of tourist influx.

Impact on tourism and local economy

Public holidays and long weekends on the work calendar represent a strategic opportunity for the tourism sector in Maspalomas:

Hotels, agencies and tour operators — will adjust rates and promotions for periods with high anticipated demand, such as Easter or the May 1st long weekend.

Restaurants and nightlife. They will be able to schedule special events taking advantage of the influx of resident and passing visitors.

It is preparing for peak consumption from both tourists and locals on special dates such as Carnival or Canary Islands Day.

The calendar will also allow local authorities and neighborhood associations to plan cultural and sporting activities that reinforce the uniqueness of Maspalomas as a vibrant year-round destination, beyond just sun and beach.

With an economic environment that continues to rely on seasonal tourism, midweek holidays present challenges and opportunities to maximize hotel occupancy and boost the local economy during 2026.
