A baby was rescued from a serious suffocation situation in the early hours of last Friday in Arinaga, Gran Canaria, thanks to the quick intervention of the local firefighters
A quick and coordinated action by the Firefighters of the Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium, belonging to the Arinaga Park, made it possible to save the life of a baby who presented symptoms of asphyxiation during the early hours of this Friday.
The incident occurred around 01:30 a.m. on January 2, 2026, when a vehicle speeding through the Arinaga area caught the attention of firefighters returning from another call. Inside were distraught parents on their way to the Maternal and Child Hospital, as their baby was losing consciousness and showing clear signs of asphyxiation.
Upon seeing the truck's emergency lights, the parents stopped their vehicle and requested immediate assistance. Firefighters began basic first aid while medical resources were activated. Minutes later, two ambulances arrived at the scene, one basic life support and one equipped for medical emergencies, whose crews continued to treat and stabilize the child.
The baby was urgently transferred to the Maternal and Child Hospital of Gran Canaria, where he was placed under medical evaluation.
From the duty shift at the Arinaga Park, the firefighters emphasized that "starting the year by saving the life of a baby is an experience that reminds us of the importance of having well-prepared public emergency services that are close to the citizens."
The Gran Canaria Emergency Consortium stressed the importance of coordination between firefighters, health services and security forces in critical situations like this, where every minute is crucial.
