Two dead and two women seriously injured after a vehicle fell into a pond in San Bartolomé de Tirajana

A serious accident that occurred on Sunday afternoon in the municipality of San Bartolomé de Tirajana has resulted in two deaths and two women being seriously injured after a vehicle fell into a pool in a rural area of ​​Los Charcos de las Tederas, Ayagaures, in the south of Gran Canaria.

According to reports from the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Fire and Rescue Service, a third victim, a woman, has died after being evacuated by helicopter.

 

The incident occurred on Sunday, January 4, 2026, at 16:13 p.m., in the Charcos de las Tederas area, when the Canary Islands Government's Emergency and Security Coordination Center (CECOES) 112 received an alert reporting that a car had fallen into the water with several people trapped inside. Emergency resources were immediately activated to address the situation.

As a result of the accident, two men died at the scene. A 47-year-old woman was rescued with very serious multiple injuries and airlifted by the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC) to the University Hospital of Gran Canaria, where she was admitted in critical condition. A second woman, 34 years old, also with serious multiple injuries, was taken by ambulance to the University Hospital of Gran Canaria Doctor Negrín.

The operation involved a medical helicopter, a medical ambulance, and two basic life support ambulances from the Canary Islands Emergency Service (SUC), as well as medical and nursing professionals from the Maspalomas health center. Also participating were the rescue helicopter from the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES), firefighters from the San Bartolomé de Tirajana Fire and Rescue Service, the Civil Guard, and Civil Protection. GES personnel and firefighters rescued the two women and recovered the two deceased, while the Civil Guard took charge of the corresponding investigation.
