Alejandro Marichal: “The rehabilitation of Montaña Clara is part of the municipal housing plan, endowed with more than 15 million euros, which is already being implemented in different neighborhoods of the municipality.”
Lucía Jiménez: “The rehabilitation of Montaña Clara will improve the quality of life of 32 households and completely transform its urban environment”
The Housing Department will begin rehabilitation work this January on the Montaña Clara residential complex in San Fernando de Maspalomas, following the final award of the project within the Programmed Rehabilitation of Residential Environments (ERRP) program. The contract was awarded to Desarrolla Obras y Servicios, SL, after the corresponding administrative procedure. The project will involve work on 32 homes distributed across three buildings, as well as on the surrounding residential area.
The project, entitled “Residential Environments for Planned Rehabilitation - Montaña Clara Urbanization,” has a nine-month implementation period and a total investment of €1.720.603,04. The project is financed through the Neighborhood Rehabilitation Aid Program, included in the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan and supported by the European Union's Next Generation EU funds.
The majority of the investment comes from the Ministry of Housing, which is contributing €787.520 from European funds. This amount is supplemented by €446.853,53 from the Gran Canaria Housing Consortium and €366.229,52 from the San Bartolomé de Tirajana City Council. In addition, the homeowners will contribute a total of €9.600, or €300 per property. This contribution will initially be covered by the City Council, so families will not have to pay upfront.
The project includes comprehensive renovations to the residential buildings, as well as urban development work that will renovate common areas, improve accessibility, and modernize the urban environment. The aim is to work simultaneously on both the homes and the public space, ensuring a real and lasting improvement in the living conditions, efficiency, and community life of the development.
Alejandro Marichal, First Deputy Mayor, explained that the start of the works in Montaña Clara is part of a housing strategy already underway in various neighborhoods throughout the municipality. “With this renovation, we are implementing concrete actions to modernize the public housing stock, adapt it to current energy efficiency and accessibility requirements, and ensure that these homes remain part of the residential market in suitable condition,” he stated. Marichal noted that this line of work rests on four fundamental pillars: the renovation of the public housing stock, the release of land for new developments, the creation of public and private housing to help regulate the market, and the promotion of rental assistance programs for working families.
For her part, the Councilor for Housing, Lucía Jiménez, highlighted that “the rehabilitation of Montaña Clara will allow us to work on an entire residential complex, improving not only the buildings but also their urban surroundings.” Jiménez emphasized that the works “will improve the comfort of the homes, reduce energy consumption, and enhance the common areas, with a direct impact on the daily lives of the families who live in the development.”
The commencement of these works reinforces the work plan developed by the Housing Department since the beginning of this legislative term, aimed at recovering and modernizing the existing housing stock as part of a comprehensive housing policy. With the start of work in Montaña Clara this January, the department continues to implement previously planned projects, consolidating a management model focused on transforming neighborhoods and ensuring suitable living conditions.
