The PSOE presents objections to the budget of San Bartolomé de Tirajana to demand greater social and educational investment

The Socialist group demands a halt to staff cuts and the strengthening of social services and culture in "realistic" arguments against local inaction.

The Socialist municipal group has submitted a series of objections to the 2026 General Budget to the town hall registry. Through this document, the PSOE (Spanish Socialist Workers' Party) aims to modify accounts they describe as "insufficient, unrealistic, and lacking in social sensitivity," proposing specific actions to ensure social cohesion, equal opportunities, and security within the municipality. Socialist spokesperson Conchi Narváez argued that these proposals stem from "actively listening" to citizens and seek to transform an "unrealistic" budget into a practical tool for residents. "We are not simply pointing out problems; we are providing concrete solutions to real situations. If the executive branch, formed by CC (Canarian Coalition) and AV-PP (Andalusian People's Party), wishes, it can amend and approve accounts that truly benefit San Bartolomé de Tirajana," she asserted.

The Socialists consider it unacceptable that the budget excludes the educational and sports community. Therefore, in their submissions, they request an increase in scholarships for studies and transportation to prevent any student in the municipality from having to abandon their education for financial reasons, paying particular attention to those residing in remote areas. They also request increased funding for Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), recognizing their key role in work-life balance and family involvement. Likewise, they demand increased sports funding, prioritizing municipal schools and clubs focused on children due to their educational and health-related contributions.

The registered document emphasizes the situation of social vulnerability, demanding an “essential” budget increase for the Social Services area. The PSOE proposes expanding resources for aid against evictions or loss of housing, basic food for families without means, the purchase of eyeglasses, prostheses, and necessary medical supplies for both children and the elderly, as well as other urgent and essential services. “It’s a matter of dignity. We cannot have a surplus while there are neighbors who cannot afford eyeglasses or fill their refrigerators,” Narváez stated.

In cultural matters, the PSOE has submitted a specific proposal aimed at reviving the Maspalomas Folklore Festival. “This is an emblematic event that forms a fundamental part of our identity and heritage. We do not understand why this government has allowed its disappearance and we demand specific funding to restore its lost prominence.”

Finally, the allegations reiterate the PSOE's firm opposition regarding municipal staffing. The Socialists demand a halt to the elimination of positions for Local Police officers—considered essential to guaranteeing security—and call for the creation of new positions for social workers to expedite administrative procedures related to social assistance. “These allegations represent our roadmap toward a more equitable and safe municipality. We hope that the governing team will analyze these proposals responsibly and incorporate the changes for the common good in San Bartolomé de Tirajana,” concludes Conchi Narváez.
