The Ministry of Justice opens the "game of musical chairs" in the Courts of southern Gran Canaria

The administrative machinery of the Ministry of Justice has begun to move. According to the latest resolution based on the Organic Regulations of the Legal Service, a transfer competition has been announced that will directly affect the judicial heart of San Bartolomé de Tirajana. For those unfamiliar with the importance of this role, the Legal Officer of the Administration of Justice (formerly the Court Clerk) is the true "notary" and manager of legal proceedings; without them, the courts grind to a halt.

Maspalomas has always had the stigma of being a "passing court." Opening these positions to competition is an opportunity to stabilize the staff and reduce the temporary contracts that often slow down response times for citizens and businesses in the area.

In the list of vacancies published this January 2026, San Bartolomé de Tirajana appears with two Second Category positions that promise to generate activity in the judicial district: Court of First Instance No. 1: The "flagship" for civil matters in Maspalomas, where everything from property disputes to complex contractual cases arising from tourism activity are resolved. And the Court for Violence Against Women No. 1, a position of extremely high sensitivity and workload, essential for protection and rapid response in a municipality with a massive transient population.

The competition, managed through the Ainoa online system, allows lawyers from all over Spain to apply for these positions. However, San Bartolomé has its own specific requirements. A minimum of two years' seniority in the previous post is required, although the new regulations (Royal Decree 1280/2024) exceptionally open the door for third-category lawyers to be promoted to these second-category positions in the south.

As is customary in the islands, seniority will be the determining factor (valued by years, months and days), which makes Maspalomas a coveted destination for experienced professionals who seek the quality of life of the south, but who also know that they are coming to one of the judicial districts with the highest volume of work in all of the Canary Islands.
