SPAR Gran Canaria is reinforcing its commitment to culture and the education of new generations by supporting, for another year, the "Family Visits" educational project developed by El Museo Canario. The chain is thus consolidating its firm commitment to fostering culture in the island community and guiding children and teenagers in discovering their roots.
With the conviction that investing in children is investing in a society better prepared for the challenges of the future, SPAR Gran Canaria supports this initiative that combines leisure, education and heritage to bring the history of the island closer to homes.
The activities allow families to enjoy immersive experiences that encourage understanding the past in order to interpret the present. This year's program incorporates an intergenerational approach that encourages grandparents to share experiences with their grandchildren, strengthening the transmission of collective memory and creating spaces for shared learning.
In 2025, the project brought together 110 families in eleven sessions, with a total of 259 participants, of whom 147 were children between 4 and 12 years old, demonstrating society's growing interest in accessing activities that connect history, play and emotions.
The 2026 program will delve deeper into the archaeology of Gran Canaria, science, the role of women in the aboriginal society, music, and other topics related to cultural heritage. The sessions will take place one Sunday a month, and registration will be available on the website and social media of El Museo Canario.
A firm commitment to Canarian culture
Through this project, SPAR Gran Canaria contributes to achieving SDG 4 (Quality Education) by reinforcing a comprehensive education that promotes values of equality, inclusion, sustainability, and a sense of belonging. Furthermore, technological tools are incorporated to enrich the experience, bringing culture closer to families in a dynamic and accessible way.
This initiative adds to SPAR Gran Canaria's ongoing support for other cultural expressions of the Archipelago, such as the sponsorship of the folk group Los Gofiones, the School of Verse Singers and the SPAR Guerra del Río Latin sailboat, reaffirming its commitment to the preservation and dissemination of Canarian traditions.
