National Police officers arrested a man last night in Santa Catalina Park in the capital who had an outstanding court order for a robbery with violence or intimidation, as part of the special prevention and security operation deployed for Carnival 2026.
The events occurred at approximately 21:15 p.m., when officers who were carrying out preventative work in the park, where the scheduled carnival events were taking place, proceeded to identify a person.
In an initial check, the individual of foreign origin identified himself with a passport from his country of origin, which later turned out to belong to a third party, with the intention of concealing his true identity.
During the security search, the agents located among his belongings an identification document that showed a Foreigner Identity Number (NIE) in the name of a person that did not match the passport initially provided.
After carrying out checks in the police databases through the CIMMAC Operations Room of 091, the true identity of the man was identified without any doubt, against whom there was a prohibition of entry into national territory, as well as a court order in force for search, arrest and appearance for a crime of robbery with violence or intimidation.
For these reasons, the wanted man was arrested and an iPhone mobile phone was seized, which is included in preliminary proceedings conducted by the Local Police Station of Maspalomas.
Once the police investigation is complete, the detainee will be placed at the disposal of the competent judicial authority.
