The Gran Canaria Bike Team has closed the 2025 season with an extraordinary record. The young cyclists in the Cadet Women's, Cadet Women's, Junior Women's, and U23 Men's categories have shone in regional and national events, consolidating the team as a benchmark in Canarian cycling.
The origin of this project dates back to 2022, with the founding of the Abike Team Cycling Club by the visionary and passionate cyclist Francisco Bolaños Escudero (14-4-1967 - 1-5-2022). Under his leadership, the club quickly established itself as a local benchmark, and the need arose to create a competition section, today known as the Gran Canaria Bike Team. This team has stood out for bringing together the island's best riders in the cadet, junior, and under-23 categories, both in XCO (Olympic Cross Country) and MTB (All Terrain Bicycle).
Our cyclists compete in various national and island-level events, proudly carrying the name of Gran Canaria throughout Spain and achieving outstanding results in numerous competitions. The new Board of Directors is committed to continuing Francisco Bolaños' legacy and is working hard to develop and enhance the club's roadmap. Noelia Pérez Peñate, current president of the Abike Team, is the figurehead of an enthusiastic, professional, and ambitious group that aims to continue growing and consolidating the local youth academy.
At Abike Team, the focus is on developing new cyclists and supporting beginners, instilling in them the technical and tactical foundations so they can enjoy the sport and compete at the island level. Meanwhile, the Gran Canaria Bike Team, the competition section, brings together high-level cyclists who represent the club in demanding national and island events, demonstrating the progress and quality of the club's training work. The 2025 season has undoubtedly been a year to remember, with performances that consolidate the Gran Canaria Bike Team as a benchmark project, capable of combining training, performance, and passion for cycling on the island.
