The Public Prosecutor's Office has requested the opening of oral proceedings against an employee of a jewelry store in the south of Gran Canaria, accused of committing a continuous crime of theft worth more than 44.500 euros during the years 2021 and 2022. The accused, identified as JMP, a Spanish national with no criminal record, took advantage of the trust of the owner of the Claudia Jewelry store, located in the El Tablero Shopping Center in San Fernando, to systematically steal numerous gold pieces.
The indictment details a long list of items allegedly stolen by the employee, who then added them to her personal assets after selling them at another establishment, Elio's, also in San Fernando. Among the items are dozens of 18-karat gold jewelry pieces, and some 14-karat gold, including: numerous rigid bracelets (weekly, bangle, half-round, and two-tone), several necklaces (including one with a seven-island motif), pendants (in the shape of a crucifix, scorpion, Native American head, and Egyptian motifs), signet rings, and earrings, including two with diamonds of 0.40 ct and 0.30 ct. The appraised value of the stolen and unrecovered jewelry amounts to €44.548,03.
The prosecution considers the acts to constitute a continuing offense of theft, aggravated by the circumstance of abuse of trust (Article 22.6 of the Criminal Code), taking advantage of the employment relationship. For this reason, a sentence of eighteen months in prison and disqualification from holding public office for the duration of the sentence is requested for the accused. Regarding civil liability, the prosecution demands that the accused compensate the owner company, Alperfan Joyería SLU, with €40.313,03, the remaining amount after deducting the portion of the jewelry recovered by the National Police. The accused has previously deposited €4.235 into the Court's Deposit Account. The case is now pending the start of the trial.
